Computational communities

This week in class we collaborated on our code as a team using different software, below were the steps we took:

Github

  • Create an account on GitHub
  • Download GitHub for desktop and sign in.
  • Share your GitHub name on this shared doc.
  • I will make you a collaborator on our repo.
  • Clone my repo by selecting the current repository  Add  Clone
  • In your folder, update the readme file with a description of what you intend to draw. This could be a portrait, a scene, an object, or something else.
  • Update the sketch.js file with the beginnings of the image. Don’t forget to add comments to your code!
  • We will rotate every 5 minutes. You must add something to somebody elses image with each rotation, adding comments.

We had to install a text editor as well. The target was to experience responding to other’s code in real-time and understand how to communicate code changes online simultaneously.

Pre-recorded lecture notes:

Anatomyof.ai is a website that contains a self-conducted report of the entire process and surrounding issues regarding the creation of Amazon Echo device

Lithium mining is most commonly done by sucking up water from the ground which becomes brine and then is evaporated until crystallisation before being purified in factories into battery lithium

Unknownfieldsdivision.com design studio with themes of alternative worlds, uncovering societal problems

Tim exile – video mixing audio with sounds from a data centre, commissioned by IBM – sound response project

  3. Black magic

This means people think of the internet as an object that they don’t understand, but freedom of information and increased transparency would help solve this problem

This week’s task was to watch a video about lithium mining in South America and its impacts:

insider news: the true cost of lithium mining(notes)

Lithium mining in South America

Freshwater contamination

Copper mines and lithium mines

Freshwater usage causes groundwater levels to drop drastically

Droughts in areas with less drinkable water for locals and farmers
